about
This is a long Summer Solstice Meditation - on this longest day of the year.
I've divided the day into nine parts, & created music & words for each segment.
lyrics
The Long Light Solstice Day – In Nine Parts
first – a communication from a dream
A person – from far away – said
“How interesting… you celebrate
your planet goes ‘round a star
The slant of your axis changes the length of the day -
So you have seasons, & an obvious way to mark time.”
“Yes,” I answered - “We have a longest day, & a shortest day -
& two times each year, the day & night are equal.
Don’t you have a similar thing?”
“No. We travel, & so all our time is measured
in equal intervals.
I envy your reasons for natural rejoicing...”
Raggy old, raggy old, raggy old rhythm
- bop lop a shoo bop, do bop day
Sun is a risen, red light a givn
Gotta, gotta, gotta get – get on our way
Sun in the morning – jazzy old Sun
Raggy old rhythm – wake up & think
Happy in Sunshine – laugh at the rain
‘Bye to the Night Time – Sky in the pink
You can no longer keep on a-sleeping
Tasks, cares, & worries – have their due
Birds chirp, & bugs & buds are peeping
Day brings so many things for you
We Who Go To Work
Crawl down in the coal mine
For your one true love
Drive out to the skyline
Count the stars above
Digging in the salt mines
By the Dragon’s Lair
Treading on the Fault Lines
Find a diamond there
Pop your box of shoe shines
You will find a way
Pay your tax & fee fines
On the longest day
Working - in the Mines
Of our gloomy dark depression
Paying off our fines
And all those debts of Old Oppression
Rolling for the times
When we’ll be a Lovely Nation
Singing songs & rhymes
Of Love & Joy & Celebration
When will our New Nation arise?
As a new light in the skies?
It’s a Labor of Love – We get help from Above
When we do the Labor of Love
Go Home – Go Home
Time to leave – get our of here
Go Home – Go Home
Watch TV & have a beer
Now’s the longest day of year
Celebrate with joy & cheer
On Instagram, or Tic Toc – look
Facebook, Twitter, games or shows
Play some music, read a book
See how quick an hour goes
Watch a movie – hear a group – do a concert or play
Watch the Kiddies – tour the Loop – hear a Prophet have his say
Take a ride, or fish, or shoot – Pickle Ball is fun for some
Kill a banker, rob & loot – you don’t even need a gun
Meditate or exercise -
Do some healthful, youthful thing
Let your leisure be a pleasure
Sing the Hours – Make them King!
Recreate & Play – On the Longest Day
Celebrate! - Be Gay! Do what ‘er you May!
Do what ’er you may – On the Longest Day
Recreate & Play – Banish Care Away
Califlower & Onion – Tomato, Beans & Rice
Rutabaga, bread & bacon – good hot love, & spice
Celery, beet, avocado – vinegar, oil, & wine
You’re a cooking desperado – culinary devil, so fine
When we’re lost in the kitchen – looking 4 a taste
Open that marvelous cookbook – not one morsel to waste
How we Please Her – Marks All Measure
Pleasured leisure – is our treasure
Shows & Games entrain delight
Magic Flames enchant the night
Dance & Play, Sport & Prance
Praise the Day of Gay Romance
So we must go, & not be fearful
All will show – our way is cheerful
Sleep – Rest
Sleep - Rest
The Moon & The Stars
Watch ‘or Your Slumbers.
Dreams bring you Wonders,
You Journey so Far,
While Safe in your Nest
